Dave and I would absolutely love it if you all could come to our wedding. That said, we do fully understand the costs and trouble associated with going across the country and across the border, not to mention how little notice we’re giving. We understand that most of you won’t be able to make the distance for a variety of valid reasons.
If you’re curious why we’re getting married so soon, there are two reasons: first and foremost, because we love each other and want to spend the rest of our lives together; secondly, Dave and I plan to move to San Diego after my student visa is up in July 2013. This entails a lot of immigration issues and details I won’t bore you all with, but the basics are these: to avoid angering the INS (Immigration) and having to be apart for year or more, we are starting the paperwork for Dave to get a green card while we’re still in Canada, and to do that we have to be married. We had already discussed marriage before, all this does is bump up the actual wedding date :]
Since we’re from two different places, it seemed appropriate to have two celebrations so that everyone can celebrate with us, so Dave and I plan to have another small wedding in California! We’re not sure of the date yet, but it will probably be in a year or two. We’ll let you all know!
